CBI: Work experience in the UK is vital for young people
Work experience is a chance to learn
The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has praised the government's plan to give more young people access to work experience in the UK, claiming it is a vital way for them to acquire the skills and knowledge needed throughout their professional careers.
Katja Hall, chief policy director at the body, said that work experience and apprenticeships are two of the most important ways of tackling youth unemployment and that action to boost this is welcome.
"These are effective ways for young people to get the skills they need to kick-start their careers and we're delighted that so many companies are getting involved," she stated.
Ms Hall went on to add that driving down youth unemployment is also dependent on a strong private sector recovery and urged the government to do all it can to help businesses prosper and hire more employees.
The government has announced a £60 million package to help young people get into work, with funding for 250,000 apprenticeships and support for work experience places among the measures included.
