China is considering sending individuals to US governmental departments in order to gain work experience as an alternative to people going to study pure theory in other countries' universities.
According to People's Daily Online, an official from the Dongcheng District of Beijing said that international perspective is needed by professionals in order to build a world city.
"We are considering selecting personnel to send to [US] governmental departments, including science and technology and urban planning, construction and management … to practice," he stated.
The news source noted that the Dongcheng District regime is set to establish a special fund for talent development in order to implement the proposed plans.
Earlier this month, the Institute of International Education's Open Doors Report found that Chinese learners made up 18 per cent of the total number of international students studying in the US.
A total of 690,023 foreign learners were educated in the country in 2009-10, 128,000 of which came from China.
