Commercial acumen 'crucial in private sector jobs market'
Business acumen is an essential requirement
It is imperative that those competing for jobs in the private sector show they have a high level of commercial acumen if they are to be successful.
That is the view of Mark Staniland, managing director of career transition services at Hays, said that candidates need to be careful with this topic, as failing to understand it will come through during their interview.
"It's essential candidates show they understand how the private sector works, make their experience relevant and demonstrate commercial acumen," he stated.
Mr Staniland went on to add that those currently in the public sector can seek advice from their current employer, who should give them tips on how to move from one environment to the other.
Dan Hawes, co-founder of the Graduate Recruitment Bureau, said recently that undertaking some work experience is a good way of gaining exposure to a commercial environment and seeing first-hand what employers want from candidates.
