CVs 'are a candidate's sales pitch'
A CV is a sales tool
A CV is a sales document and an opportunity for candidates to impress employers with their previous history and future potential but lying is something which should be avoided, it has been claimed.
Peter Panayotou, senior consultant at the Write Stuff, said that normally it is impossible for an employer to check every detail of each CV they receive and that applicants embellishing their achievements is to be expected.
However, while jazzing up one's career history can be forgiven, telling a significant lie to increase the chances of being hired is something which is not advised.
"Employers expect you to upgrade things slightly but putting in an outright lie like saying you were a director of a company when you weren't - that could be a bit much," Mr Panaotou added.
According to research published by Kroll Background Worldwide, the number of discrepancies uncovered in employee CVs during 2010 increased by more than 115 per cent compared with 2009.
