People skills 'crucial to IT jobs'

Published: 26/04/2011

IT jobs require people skills

Individuals trying to find work in London in the IT sector have been reminded of the importance of people skills.

Speaking at an event in London earlier in the month, a member of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association conference committee, claimed boundaries in the sector are being eroded.

Peter Wood explained that people skills are now needed, as well as technical ability, for those searching for jobs.

He added that individuals trying to find work in London now need to be able to show "sensitivity and sympathy towards what people's working objectives", rather than "prescribing the rules" and "being a policeman".

"We're seeing an increase in requirements for people to be able to communicate clearly and intelligently," Mr Wood said.

He was commenting at the Infosecurity Europe event, which showcases the latest IT security solutions and offering advice and education to visitors and was held at Earl's Court last week.
