Longer working lives are more likely to involve career change, an expert has said.
Campaign director for the Employers Forum on Age Rachel Krys said the two will be linked in the future as changing demographics have an increasing impact.
"The reality is we're all going to have to work for longer and we're probably going to need to have two or three 'careers', as it were, in our lifetime," she remarked.
One consequence of this will be people aged around 50 needing to be re-trained by employers for a new career that will last for another 20 years, Ms Krys noted.
She went on to suggest bosses are on the "cusp" of the change in "mindset" needed to adapt to the situation.
Recent research has indicated older workers are already seeing their job roles alter later in life.
Earlier this month, insurer LV= revealed 46 per cent of those still in employment after the age of 50 have changed the sort of work they are doing.
