Public sector workers 'must invest time in their job search'

Tech firms are potimistic about 2011

Public sector employees who will soon be looking to make the transition to the private sector have been warned they must invest time in their job search if they are to be successful.

Mark Staniland, managing director of career transition services at Hays, said that while many com-mercial enterprises plan to take more staff on in the next 12 months, there will be fierce competition for each role.

Not only will they be competing against others coming from the public sector, they will be up against unemployed people and those already in the private sector looking to take their career further.

It means they will have to be ready to work hard and ensure that their application shines above all others.

"Public sector workers will need to invest time in their job search. It's often the CV or application form that will secure an interview - candidates need to ensure they demonstrate that they have the skills and experience relevant to the job role they are applying for," Mr Staniland went on to add.

According to the Barclays Corporate Job Creation Survey 2011, 85 per cent of large companies plan to create more jobs in 2011, with all of them being full-time.
