Sainsbury's to create 20,000 UK jobs
Sainsbury's expects 8,500 staff to take part in one of its work training programmes
Supermarket giant Sainsbury's has announced that it will create 20,000 in the UK over the next three years.
The move comes as part of the company's plan to extend its range of supermarkets and convenience stores across the country and is in addition to 13,000 new posts the firm has created in the last two years.
Justin King, chief executive of the firm, said that as well as giving people employment opportunities, the move will develop staff in a number of ways.
"We recognise the importance of doing more than simply creating jobs and this is why we are committed to providing our colleagues with an unrivalled range of training and development opportunities," he added.
Software giant Microsoft also has plans to create jobs in the UK, with the company revealing that more than 4,000 posts will be filled in 2011 alone.
Representatives from the two retail giants met with the prime minister David Cameron yesterday (Monday) to discuss the future of the private sector.
