Temporary jobs may be good for those seeking work experience in the UK

Those seeking work experience in the UK may wish to consider temporary posts, as small businesses have been advised to employ more people in this fashion.

Director of policy and professional services at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation Tom Hadley said the latest research has shown a rise in temporary employment and suggested this is about to "accelerate".

He said this is "because there's an indication that employers will be using flexible staffing whilst there is still a lot of economic uncertainty and people are naturally cautious about taking on permanent staff".

Small firms can benefit because recruitment is swift and they can also replace staff quickly if the person they employ turns out to be wrong for the job.

Earlier this week, the Bank of Scotland's labour market barometer revealed temporary vacancies in Scotland were increasing at their fastest rate last month since 2007.

The biggest increases were in the nursing, medical and healthcare professions.
