Hotel chain Travelodge has announced the launch of the UK's first management apprenticeship scheme aimed at school leavers.
The company will recruit 500 new apprentices as part of its JuMP (Junior Management Programme), with the aim to encourage those who have completed A levels to consider other paths apart from university.
It will allow school leavers to continue their education while picking up valuable work experience and exposure to a commercial environment.
Those who successfully complete the course could become a manager by the age of 21 and earn a salary between £25,000 and £30,000.
Guy Parsons, chief executive at Travelodge, said that it is an exciting alternative to going to university.
"The fast-track management programme provides a real job, with the opportunity of on-the-job training throughout the business, combined with further education and the opportunity to earn up to £30,000," he added.
Tina Campbell, founder of the Bright Ideas Trust, said that small businesses can benefit from taking on apprentices as much as larger organisations.
