Over 80% of students at UK universities and colleges are satisfied with their courses, according to a new survey. 

83% of students surveyed by the polling company Ipsos Mori expressed satisfaction with their course, while only 9% were dissatisfied. 

Sir Alan Langlands, Chief Executive of the Higher Education Funding Council for England, said: “These excellent results yet again demonstrate that our universities and colleges provide a high-quality experience for their students.” 

He added that there was no room for complacency from UK institutions, however, commenting: “The survey provides vital information to inform students' choices. The results also provide information for universities and colleges to help them improve the learning and teaching experiences of their students.” 

Around 265,000 final-year students responded to the survey this year, from 154 higher education institutions and 99 further education colleges across the UK, representing a response rate of 65%. 

In all seven categories covered by the survey, satisfaction has either improved since 2010 or stayed the same. 

In particular, students felt that staff were doing a good job: 84% of students were satisfied with the quality of teaching on their courses (up 1% on last year) and 77% were satisfied with the academic support they received (up 2%). 

The level of overall satisfaction was 83% (up 1%), and with personal development it was 80% (up 1%), learning resources 80% (unchanged) and organisation and management 75% (up 2%). Students remained least satisfied with assessment and feedback (68%), although it has improved by 2% since last year.
