Video games development industry 'would benefit from more training and education'
Investment in staff development is needed
Greater investment is needed in training and development for those working in the video games industry, it has been claimed.
Phil Elliott, managing director of GamesIndustry.biz, said that while more needs to be spent on equipping workers with the correct knowledge and skills, the sector moves so quickly that the things learnt just a few years ago can become obsolete.
However, there are steps candidates can take to increase their chances of securing employment in the industry, with a sound knowledge of maths and computer science the key to any future job prospects.
"I've heard many employers say that they often can't find enough people with strong enough qualifications in maths and computer science," Mr Elliott noted.
At the recent British Education and Training Technology exhibition, parliamentary under-secretary of state for children Tim Loughton affirmed the government's "determination to ensure that all children can benefit from technology and the huge opportunities it brings” in a speech to visitors.
