A significant number of young people are under the impression they are losing out in the jobs market to older citizens.
The results of a study by Reed in Partnership show more than two-thirds of respondents aged between 18 and 24 believe a lack of experience is their biggest hindrance when looking for work, reports the Press Association.
Such a figure is up 16 per cent on last year, which was the first time the welfare-to-work provider had carried out the survey.
Meanwhile, 90 per cent of those questioned suggest work experience is crucial in the fight to land a full-time position.
Chris Melvin, chief executive at the organisation, says: "Good work experience is becoming more and more important to help young people stand out in a competitive market."
Jason Greaves, operations director at Manpower, recently admitted to the Mirror that searching for jobs is tough at the moment, but urged people to remain motivated.
