New Equality Act 'will bring greater transparency' to employment

The Equality Act will lead to greater clarity and transparency in the workplace, resulting in the secrecy that formerly existed between employers and their staff "becoming indicative of a bygone era", an expert has observed.

Phil Flaxton, chief executive of Work Wise UK, noted improvements in terms of pay help within employment should ensure workers are being given a fair wage.

"Fundamentally, it should lead to greater clarity [and] transparency, which in a modern society should be welcomed," he said.

Mr Flaxton added a move towards openness and fairness ought to be embraced because of the period of austerity our society is currently experiencing.

He dispelled the notion the workplace will become a utopia because of the Act, but regarded a move allowing colleagues to know what their co-workers earn as a positive one.

This follows research conducted by the Chartered Management Institute and XpertHR, which revealed female junior executives receive, on average, a salary £1,065 lower than that of their male counterparts.
