The government needs to do everything in its power to avoid the threat of an increased number of people being out of work, one expert has argued.
Chief executive of the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) Kevin Green's comments follow the latest REC and KPMG Report on Jobs, which revealed growth in recruitment employment activity has continued to slow.
Mr Green claimed the latest study demonstrates the UK may be heading for a double-dip in staffing levels.
He stated the government can help to avert this by refusing to implement regulations that would impact the growth of businesses and jobs.
"Immediate priorities for government must focus on encouraging private sector employers with incentives to take on staff and radically improving the support being offered to specific groups of jobseekers," Mr Green said.
The study revealed job vacancies rose at a slower rate for September in addition to the month experiencing a weaker trend in staff pay.
Figures released by the Spanish labour ministry earlier this week showed the country saw a 1.2 per cent month-on-month rise in unemployment during September.
