Those who have attended university in Buckinghamshire can apply for an internship with the local council following the launch of a new scheme.
Buckinghamshire County Council has revealed an initiative whereby those looking for work can complete a three to six-month work placement with the authority, giving them valuable experience of an internship in the UK, the Bucks Free Press reports.
The scheme is aimed at those leaving school, college and university and during the internship, successful applicants will be given a mentor as well as a reference and a statement of achievements to highlight the skills and competencies they have picked up.
Councillor Frank Downes, cabinet member for resources, told the newspaper the local authority has a duty to help those in the area find employment.
"We feel we should be doing everything we can to help young people into the world of work," he added.
Harvey Francis, executive vice-president of HR at Skanska UK, told PM Online that from a business' perspective, the more time a person has had exposed to a commercial environment, the more ap-pealing they are as a candidate.
