Supply for high-skilled wind energy jobs 'not keeping up with demand'

Supply for high-skilled wind energy jobs 'not keeping up with demand'

There is a huge demand for candidates with the required skills to work in the wind energy industry but the supply of suitable personnel is not keeping up.

That is the assertion of Ben Cartland, associate at Acre Resources, who said research from RenewableUK showing a 91 per cent increase in employment over the last three years is eye catching but needs to be seen in the wider context.

Many of these roles are to do with administration and have tended to be filled very quickly.

However, when it comes to technical skills, employers are struggling to find enough candidates.

"Competition is rife for those with specific technical wind turbine engineering experience and the employers in the sector are having to look for similar skill sets from other industries to meet demand," Mr Cartland added.

According to RenewableUK's research, of the 10,800 full-time-equivalent employees working directly in the wind and energy sectors, 56 per cent are associated with large-scale onshore wind.
