Vocational training 'ticks all the right boxes'

Vocational training 'ticks all the right boxes'

While some people are keen to go to university opting for an apprenticeship or vocational training can provide just as good if not better opportunities for a successful career, an industry figure has claimed.

Sarah Clover, sales and marketing director at notgoingtouni.co.uk, said that the idea that higher education is the only means to a fulfilling career is wrong and that many graduates who are currently out of work have been the recipients of bad careers advice.

She stated that many of those who fall into this category feel badly let down, as they are struggling to find a job, have large debts to service and feel like they have wasted their time.

Ms Clover added that other paths should be promoted to young people to show them that university is not the only option.

"Apprenticeships and other kinds of vocational training really are great alternatives to university, because you get paid while you are learning, there is a good chance you'll get a job at the end of it and you haven't got any debt - what's not to like?," she went on to note.

According to a recent survey by Totaljobs.com, 42 per cent of graduates said they did not think that their course had helped prepare them for work.
