Overseas students make a significant contribution to UK universities, it has been claimed.
Speaking to the BBC, Sally Hunt, general secretary of the University and College Union, said that young people, in addition to lecturers from other countries, are a positive influence on higher education institutions.
She made the claim after figures from the Higher Education Statistics Agency showed the number of overseas students has increased by 32 per cent in the last five years.
"Our universities are consistently enriched by the students and academics that come to this country to study, carry out research and share their knowledge," Ms Hunt told the news provider.
She added that it is important these individuals are not discouraged from coming to the UK and their presence should be celebrated.
Stuart Cook, acquisitions manager at Freshstartliving.com, said recently that foreign students provide a big boost to accommodation in university towns and cities across the UK.
