University leavers hoping to find employment in the current economic climate will need to ensure that they are constantly updating their skills.
That is according to Gerwyn Davies, public policy adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), who claimed globalisation means UK workers now have to compete with those from abroad.
"Whereas perhaps in the past many graduates had graduated and stopped as though their work was done, the emphasis will now be on lifelong learning," she explained.
He added that employees will need to refine the skills they already have as well as look to broaden their repertoire in order to be able to be more attractive applicants than those seeking jobs from overseas.
The most recent CIPD/KPMG labour market outlook survey showed that more employers are finding it hard to fill vacancies compared to a few months ago.
