A new scheme that aims to increase student mobility and improve the relevance of training and education to young people in Europe has been launched by the European Commission (EC).
The body stated there are currently some five million young adults looking for work in the continent, many of whom will miss out due to lack of experience of qualifications.
Youth on the Move, however, has proposed 28 "key" actions that will boost the employability of youngsters and their access to the labour market.
The Commission - which works to simplify and improve the regulatory environment of the European Union - explained the initiative will be crucial to achieving numerous Europe 2020 headline targets, including the reduction of the number of early school leavers from 15 per cent to ten per cent.
Commenting on the news, Androulla Vassiliou, the European commissioner for education, culture, multilingualism and youth, said: "The EU needs even more young people who are highly skilled, knowledgeable and innovative if it is to prosper in the future."
