The government should assist the construction industry in creating and funding apprenticeships, according to the suggestion of one expert.
Steve Turner, head of communications at the Home Builders Federation (HBF), claims measures should be taken to ensure Britain's workforce has the skills necessary to close the housing gap in the future.
He advises government and the industry should work together to meet this requirement, stating: "Provision of housing is a national need and so there is a responsibility there across the board to ensure that happens."
Last week the Cross-industry Construction Apprenticeship Task Force warned the country is at risk of a skills gap if action is not taken now.
Noting the expense involved in taking on apprentices can be "prohibitive", the body claimed the government should step in to ensure this does not affect the volume of new trainees, adding the construction industry should not be "overlooked" when it comes to official commitments.
