Travelodge is to build 35 new hotels this year, creating over 700 jobs in the process.
The hotel chain plans to invest £300 million in expanding its portfolio which stands at 460 hotels nationwide.
Guy Parsons, chief executive of the group, told the Independent that the company exchanged on 96 sites last year, 52 of which were part of the biggest transaction in the hotel sector since 2008 and the new proposals reinforce the company's expansion plans.
"The hotels we will build this year have been a result of our commitment to expand during the recession while many companies put their development on hold," he added.
Supermarket chain Sainsbury's has also outlined a plan which will see it create 20,000 jobs in the UK over the next three years.
Justin King, chief executive of the firm, said that as well as giving people employment opportunities, the move will develop staff in a number of ways, including training initiatives and other schemes.
