In the current climate it is absolutely vital that young people gain some work experience in the UK if they are to forge successful careers for themselves.
That is the view of The Daily Politics and This Week presenter Andrew Neil, who wrote in his blog for the BBC that the time spent at an organisation as an intern is invaluable not only for the skills they pick up but also the contacts they make.
He stated that in some instances those from privileged backgrounds have an advantage of gaining work experience in the UK's biggest institutions in the fields of finance, media and politics.
