Businesses offering work experience in the UK are doing something commendable, however, there are risks that they must manage just as they would with any member of staff.
Andy Parsons, HR director at Bluefin Insurance Services, told Bristol 24-7 that commercial organisations could leave themselves exposed to potential hidden costs by failing to outline office safety procedures.
As a result, Mr Parsons urged businesses to do all they can to ensure those on work experience places are up to speed with health and safety requirements.
"Businesses introducing work experience students into their workforce should deliver the same health and safety briefings and induction which they would give a new member of staff," he told the news provider.
Phil Booth, director of UK operations at OfficeTeam, said recently that work experience in the UK is essential for jobseekers and urged businesses to do all that they can to offer young people opportunities.
