PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has taken on a record number of graduates for an internship in the UK.
The 1,200 university leavers, who come from more than 100 educational establishments, made up only a small fraction of the 22,000 individuals who applied for roles at the frim.
Richard Irwin, PwC head of student recruitment, hailed the move - suggesting that the high number of people who progress from intern to full-time employees provided a "great return" on the company's investment.
"[It] supports our belief that as a business the earlier we work with students, the more successful our recruitment, and their experience will be," he said.
Graduates will take on roles in the firm's tax, assurance, legal, consulting and advisory divisions, alongside 40 jobs in technology.
Earlier in the month, Tanya de Grunwald, founder of GraduateFog.co.uk claimed that young people have become frustrated over employers taking advantage of unpaid interns, who are desperate to gain experience.
